Switching rooms
Found some friends to move in with? Or maybe sharing an apartment wasn’t quite for you? Then it is possible to switch rooms! 😊
Switching rooms depends on availability and we cannot guarantee that you can switch rooms immediately. During the fall semester, there is rarely an opportunity to switch rooms before November/December. During the spring semester, it is usually possible to switch rooms at any time.
It is not possible to apply for switching rooms in the period from 1st August until 31st October due to the high demand of new tenants.
When you switch rooms within our housing there is no termination period – but you cannot switch before the 1st of the following month.
Apply to switch
You can easily apply to switch rooms via your profile at hybel.no.

If you want to switch housing in connection with the application for a new tenancy agreement, you apply in the same form as you apply for a new agreement. The form is usually sent out around Easter each year.
❗ Switching during summer has to happen from 1st July to 3rd July. If you are not able to switch during this period you cannot switch rooms.
Moving period
When you have signed an agreement to switch you will have access to both rooms for a short period. This way you have the time to move your stuff over to the new room, and clean out of the old one. You have 3 days to move.
Your agreement for the new room starts 1st March. Your agreement for your original room is automatically terminated on 3rd March.
You can pick up the keys for your new room at 12:00 noon on day 1, and then move, clean and have a checkout by 12:00 noon on day 3.
Rent during moving period
You pay rent for the period you have an agreement for both rooms. With switching rooms you have 3 days with overlapping agreements you can use to move rooms.
Your agreement for the new room starts 1st March, and the agreement for the old room ends 3rd March. You are then paying rent for the new room from 1st March, and the old room until and including 3rd March.
Clean-out and checkout
You have to clean and make your housing ready before you hand over the keys. See information about moving out here.
A cleaning checkout is mandatory when switching rooms, you can book it here.
Cleaning checks take place on weekdays between 09:00-14:00. You can choose when you want it during the 3 days you have for moving, but it must be completed at latest on the third day. If you switch rooms during the weekend, a cleaning check can be done on the Friday before, or the Monday after.
You must show up at the agreed upon time for the check. If you move without a checkout, you will not be given the opportunity to clean the room again. The room will be considered moved out from and you will be charged for expenses related to not approved cleaning.
Remember to update your address in the post office/civil register, and state the new address when you order packages.
