The semester fee – what for?

You may have wondered what the semester fee is and what it is used for?

According to the student welfare organization (studentsamskipnader), all students affiliated with a college or university must pay a semester fee. If you do not pay, you will not be allowed to take exams. The semester fee is paid once every half year.

The payment deadlines for the semester fee at Molde University College are:

  • 1 September for the autumn semester
  • 1 February for the spring semester

On Molde University College’s website you can read more about how to pay the semester fee.

What is the semester fee used for?
Most of the semester fee goes to the students’ union to finance the welfare services you can use while you are a student. A good and safe start to your studies, a study environment with active student associations, and the counselling service are some examples of what the semester fee helps support.

Useful to know:

  • If you have applied for a loan from the State Educational Loan Fund (Lånekassen), the semester fee must be paid for the loan to be disbursed.
  • The student ID card is valid only after the semester fee has been paid.
  • The semester fee is mandated by the regulations on students’ unions.
